"Meanwhile,hundreds of people demonstrated in Tel Aviv's Gan Meir on Wednesday against racism targeted at Israelis of Ethiopian origin. At least half the demonstrators were not of Ethiopian descent.

Avraham Etgar, a construction engineer of Ethiopian origin who immigrated to Israel in the mid-1980s, said: "I am a survivor from Sudan. I have been in all the demonstrations for Ethiopian immigrants in Israel and dreamed that when I have children no one will look at them differently, because I raised them as human beings in this country. Why should skin color determine anyone's fate?"

Arkadi Duchin and Alma Zohar performed as a sign of solidarity.

"This community has nothing to apologize for," Zohar said. "Israel is a state of law, and the law says the penalty for incitement to racism is five years in prison. Yet those who said [racist comments] in Kiryat Malakhi are still running free and we can all identify them," she said".
